There is a NASTY new brower hijack/virus,
known as
SpyAxe, which we have seen several incidents of
recently. It takes over your homepage, and
attempts to sell spyware removal tools via a pop-up.
BEWARE: Spy Axe and Spy Trooper are
part of
an international credit card fraud and identity theft
network.

Symantec's antivirus software contains a
vulnerability that could be exploited by a malicious
hacker to take control of a system, the company
said late Tuesday.
According to Symantec, the bug, which affects a
range of the company's security products, is a "high"
risk.
No patch has been released yet, so use extra
caution or install AVG Free
Edition in the meantime.

The Rent-A-Geek Team are on the radio and
television! Listen to Oldies 1550 in Kelowna on
Wednesday mornings to hear our new "Ask the
expert" segment. Portions of the live segment are
recorded for airplay on Standard Radio (Sun FM)
stations throughout the Okanagan. Last week we
discussed the SpyAxe hijack.
Shaw Television will be filming a segment on Internet
Security in our offices on January 3rd. Look for the
feature to be presented in rotation on Shaw Channel
11. The segment will also be archived on their
website.
